What is the “Advice of the day”?

If we receive several questions about a particular aspect of a task, we usually write an advice or comment into the “Advice of the day” at lunch time or early afternoon so that all participants receive the same information. If you have any questions about a task or something is unclear, please look first at the “Advice of the day” to see whether there is an advice or tip about it. If something is still unclear, you are welcome to contact us.
You can contact us here

You can see the “Advice of the day” here

What can I do if I have forgotten my password?

If you have forgotten your password, a new one can be generated for you. To do this, please go to the Login page on the website and then to “Forgotten your password?” You are now requested to enter the security code, your username and your email address. You will then receive an email with a confirmation link. If you click this link, you will receive a second email with your new password.

How can I subscribe to the newsletter?

In order to keep up-to-date and not miss the start of the registration phase, you can subscribe to the newsletter here.

Can I cancel my subscription to the newsletter again?

You can of course cancel your subscription to the newsletter. Please send an email with the content or title "UNSUBscribe" to physik_im_advent-request@gwdg.de

Can I reuse my account from last year?

No, this is unfortunately not possible. For privacy reasons, we are required to delete all accounts at the end of January. We therefore ask all participants to re-register each year. You are welcome to use the same access data as in the previous year, of course.

Can I still win a prize when I have provided one or more incorrect answers?

Yes, that is not a problem. One of the jokers is played automatically when no solution has been submitted or the solution is not correct. You have two jokers available at the start. You can obtain two further jokers by viewing ten PiA solution videos for one joker. So your chance of winning stays the same. In addition, special prizes are awarded at the Advent weekends. For this draw, the results of the answers from Saturday and Sunday are added together and the prizes drawn from the best participants. It’s worth having a go!

Why do I have to provide personal data when I register?

To take part in the competition, including a certificate of participation, you need any arbitrary username, any password and a working email address (e.g. to generate a new password in case you forget it). The task and solution videos are freely available. We only need your personal data, such as your postal address, if you want to take part in the prize draw. All data are deleted again in January of the following year. In addition, the University of Göttingen as well as all cooperation partners are non-profit organisations and do not pursue commercial purposes. The decision as to whether children or young people are allowed to take part in this education opportunity always lies with the parents, of course. More information at: Privacy.

What happens if I cannot work on a task on a particular day?

You have jokers which are played automatically when you have been unable to answer a task at all or you haven’t answered it correctly. A total of four jokers are available to you - two of them are only obtained by viewing ten PiA solution videos for each joker, however. At the end, we add up how many correct answers you have given. So it’s no problem at all.
